Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are permanently bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth. They can be applied to just one tooth or multiple teeth, depending on the amount of correction you desire. Porcelain veneers can even be used to straighten teeth that would normally require braces.
Dr. Schaffer can use porcelain veneers to change the shape, color and/or size of your teeth. Porcelain veneers can usually be applied to your teeth in two to three visits. During your first visit, you will discuss with Dr. Schaffer the corrections you would like to make to your smile and Dr. Schaffer will evaluate your teeth. After determining if porcelain veneers are right for you, Dr. Schaffer will schedule you for your first porcelain veneer appointment.
During your second visit, Dr. Schaffer will remove a small amount of the front of your teeth so that the porcelain veneers fit seamlessly over your teeth. He will then take an impression of the teeth that require the veneers and send the impression to a dental lab for your porcelain veneers to be created. The dental lab will then create the porcelain veneers and send them back to Dr. Schaffer who will fit and then bond them permanently.
While the lab creates your custom porcelain veneers, you will be fitted with temporary porcelain veneers. Many patients love the way their temporaries look, and they can't believe the difference after they receive their permanent porcelain veneers.
Your new veneers will make an immediate difference in how you smile. Porcelain veneers are easy to care for and you can brush and floss them just as you do your natural teeth.
